Blog comments

Hey Guys,

So I read 2 blogs and left 2 comments each. I found it hard to do as in my mind I wanted to put the comments in one comment post but I got through it thank God.

Feedback.

Hey guys,

I looked into two games and used the tag system I found it quite interesting to use and I realised that using actually helps me write more words as the total of my words were over 150 and I'm quite pleased with myself.

Unity tutorial 4

Hey guys,

Me again I thought I uploaded a quick talk on this but I didn't and I apologise for that some of my blog content is gone at the moment but I will fix it. So I have to I enjoy doing the tutorials as I get to learn how to make a character how to make to terrain and then add textures into the game.

I went into the unity shop to look at some textures and I have to say I’m quite surprised at how cheap the stuff is to get. I done a quick recap by watching the tutorials again and I have to say I did struggle a bit with some of the things he was saying but still enjoyed it. From what I remember doing I mostly ended up crashing the programme and having to restart it. But I finally got it to work the fifth time I did it. This was around 8 at night so that more then likely explains why I didn't upload the tutorial straight away as I was to busy trying to get it to work right my brain decided that that was enough no more. Anyway I’m really looking forward to the next tutorial.

Reading

Hey guys,

Sorry for the late upload as I said I will mostly be uploading on the weekends as that's the only time I can do these things. So don't judge me 😜. So I did some reading last week again I can only upload blogs on the weekend. So any way I found two articles really interesting but I had on issue I went into the paper prototype thing and just got so confused about it. This sounds interesting and I looked at it before the others so that explains the confusion maybe.

I looked at game consideration. It was quite a good read I enjoyed as it game me ideas on how to plan my project.

Game Vision Statement

Hey guys,

So here’s what my game is.

Genre: Action, adventure and puzzles.

Gameplay: RPG (Role Playing Game) First person.

My game will be a mix of Zelda for puzzles, World of War craft for the RPG and Pokémon for the adventure. I will use these things combined together to make a game that is catching to the players and also a lot less stressful for them.

So my game goes like this: you as the main character will do some little tasks around the bar they start at. Then after you do these tasks you have a cut scene that involves the kingdom either a person injured or a group of other people will come around to the bar and cause an issue.

Through this event you decide to go on adventure to save your kingdom. You go through trails and you meet new people who you can let join you or not. As you the player  goes on this journey you will find treasure chest.

This is where the puzzle game comes in.
For the treasure chest puzzle the harder the puzzle means the treasure is the most rare thing in it. If you fail a puzzle cause you ran out of time that’s find it will respond in a different area with in 2 days. This will give the chance to still get the treasure but after three tries it will be gone and you won’t get it again just so that people will still be interested in the game.

For the characters you can choose which one you want to be like in the Sims games but without the feelings. There will be a health bar for each person but it’s only three per group you will lose a person wither you leave them in the last village you go and saved at. This will mean you won’t be able to complete some of your tasks as that character is important to that part.

For the health bar it will be a basic bar with the colour red inside it but the more health you lose the bar will go down with it. The bar will shrink until you save in a village. This won’t work if you save outside the village you need to be inside it. But for the test run it will be normal so that we can make sure there’s no bugs in the system but the bar.

For the RPG part of the game you get to develop your character as you go along. Now there is a game like that but I can’t seem to remember what it’s called at the moment. But basically you can choose what way you want your character to be improved certain things like swords will turn your character to a knight and if you improve on weapons without a specific weapon you will be an assassin.

Hey guys,

I forgot to mention that I left 2 150 word comments using to www method. I really enjoyed this one as it helped make it easier for me to write more.

This is a good method if you don't know what to say.

Games MDA

Hey guys,

This week I read about MDA. This is what a game developer has to think about and write up about to help sell there game. The M stand for Mechanics how much time does the user have to wait for the game to start up or save. What the user needs for controls to move your character around. These are important for the game cause if the user doesn't know these things they most likely won't buy it (This is why you test the also.).

The A stands for Aesthetics this is how the game looks visually pleasing. This has more to do with the fact that the users will need to be able to enjoy the graphics but it also needs to look good so that it makes sense for the game.

The D stands for Dynamics this focus on how to get the function of the game and the story of how things work.

These are important for what you would call "planner journey" as I said before this is important for a game designer to figure out how and what makes a good game.

This is my interpretation of the articles I read. I'm having difficulty uploading links to paste into this blog.

Game Idea Research

Hey guys,

So the game I have chosen to do is an action adventure game with puzzles in voiced. The story will go that the main character you choose the gender and name, is on a quest to bring peace to your kingdom and to stop the war that's been going on since you were a child.

The first key mechanism for this game will be a little time counter this means if you fail a puzzle because your to slow you will not be able access to the treasure chest puzzle for a certain amount of time. This will. Make the game a lot more interesting and people won't be able to complain about not getting something if they lose the first time.

The second key mechanism for this game will be the controls I think using the space bar to jump and then the normal arrow keys to move around will help with the game controls and make it easier to move the character around to collect the treasure to help save the kingdom.

The final key mechanism would be the health bar as being the hero of the game you can't be immortal so to speak. I believe if the character dies they should responded where they last saved which is part of what I hope to achieve in this game.

Blog comments: Game designs

Hey guys,

So I have read 2 blogs and I found them quite interesting they both have different ideas and different mechanism focuses and it's making me think about mine I'm still writing mine out and I'm trying to figure out what are my important mechanism for my game so you'll find out what I have chosen in my blog. This was a very insightful task to do and I can't wait to read more blogs.

Hey guys,

What's this I'm on time and not late. Yeah I just finished work so my brains a little funny at the moment. Bare with me now.

For this read week we had to read about game elements and I really liked it. The first one I read was called Formal Abstract Design Tool which I found very interesting. It talked about how to make game and how to talk about them. This was really interesting and I really enjoyed it.

It it took me a while to read all of them as I can't read quickly. The games articles are very interesting and I quite enjoyed the article that you could sell a game before it's even made which was quite interesting.

Hey Guys,

For this feedback reading we were given we had to choose at least two articles to write about. The first one read was about self-doubt, I choose this one because it’s very relatable as I have issues with self-doubt even though it doesn’t seem it sometimes but it's true. I struggle talking to people that I meet the first time unless I’m already comfortable with them and my self-doubt hasn’t gotten to me. This article is very interesting in that the way he describes his issues with doubt is the same thing for and that makes him relatable to him. I will try to take his tips and put them to use for future projects and talking to people. For the second one I have read is about changing how you can change the way you take bad and negative comments if you have what they call a fixed mindset which tends to make people more brittle to comments that are negative. This was interesting, and I feel like its linked to the self-doubt that can cripple you emotionally and academically. I really enjoyed this and I can’t wait to read the other articles that are on this page.

Remake Of bounce Idea 1- one player game or multi player.

The idea I would like to do is a remake of Bounce. I have this idea to do it because I always used to play this game when I was a child and my mum would let me use her phone. A person could spend hours on just going through the levels of the game. I’m interested in making a remake just to add my own twist onto the game and possibly make it my own. This game could then have a possible upgrade with it having a rotational camera instead of having a static one. I would like to learn how to make the camera angles change fluidly and how to make the controls simple so that anyone could use it. This topic I very interesting because you have games like sonic, Mario and even Pac man that are part of the history the game genre like bounce although Pac man is a new addition, but they are either foe Nintendo or you play them on your phone and the camera is static and that you can’t move the camera to get a better view of the track, I hope to change this with this possible game change and maybe make a story to go along with the game to get people interested in the game. The game will hopefully make since and that I don’t have issues making it. This is one type of game I would like to make it’s an interesting one to do as its one player, but I hope to make it almost like Mario kart where you can play against more than one person as a side bit. To see if this is possible I will do more research to see if it can be done.

Adventure Game Idea 2- one player game.

This game is completely different from the first idea. I love adventure stories as they can be different in most cases. The reason for this choice is that again as a child I would watch my uncle play these video games like Pokémon and resident evil. I used to watch him play resident evil granted only being 5 years old when I first saw him play I was hooked. I always found it interesting in watching him go through worn-out broken-down buildings trying to find the things he needed it was very interesting and I found it very amusing to watch. I as a bit of a gamer play mostly 3ds now and the games I play are Pokémon, Animal crossing, Zelda and kingdom hearts. I'm interested in making a game like Zelda but for Pc or even for android as I think a lot of gamers would in fact play the game. I would like to make it a multi character game. Unlike kingdom hearts dream drop I would let the characters complete 1 or 2 tasks then you must move on to another character whereas kingdom hearts give you a limit which can be very stressful. This will be a hard thing to do maybe but I would tackle it in stages. The first to find the story, then to design the characters and last to write storyboards. This will be quite the challenge for me as I’m not good with sticking to the story, so I must stay focused on this. I think this will be something to enjoy and I'm p to challenging myself into doing something new. I think doing a rotation view will make this game interesting and hiding the little treasure chests in the game will keep the people interested in the game this will be another challenge but it’s something I'm up for.

Puzzle Game Idea 3- one player game.

For this game it would be interesting to learn how to make things interactive quest game. I would like to do a quest where the character goes through different chests and must figure out how to open the treasure in a certain time to get the items they will need to help defeat the boss battle. The reason I thought of this was going through different games and most of the time the treasure you would find isn’t all that helpful and most people end up selling it to buy something that is useful. I think this would be a great game idea since it will make putting a rare item in the most difficult puzzle worth it to the user. I only recently got into puzzle games and I really enjoy them as they can help me focus more on one task, I hope to make the game like that. For this I have two ways of tackling it. The first one is to make the game third perspective where you can partially see your character and then be able to look around from your vision to find the chest also there would be a note in the chest that will have a clue to another chest that the user has the choice of reading or not and if they don’t it disappears. The other way is to make the game point of view where you would then see a chest and given the option to open it or not if not you won’t be able to re-try to get the chest unless you start the whole level again this will give the user to make things a lot more interesting and to make the user think before they reject something they might want.

Game Idea - one player game.

My last idea is to make a multiple-choice game. This game is basically a choice game with at least three choices. The story can come up laterBasically, in the story you as the main character gets introduced with a basic story for an introduction. Then they could be sent into a slight problem or something of the sort. The idea is you as the main character go around the area. You as the character you can move around areas and you can talk to characters around the area. In the game you can select a person who you want to talk to, as you talk to them your give three options on how to talk to people that you have chosen to talk to. This can make you choose which way the game can go. At the being of the story you will be given 5 question then it will bring you into the start of your game. This will help the story move onto a quest that you can choose to make it how you want. I have an interest in doing this this because I have played these games in the past and I have I always enjoyed these games where they always involve a love interest in the game, but this one is where you choose who you want after the you do a few quests, you will then be introduced to them separately. To tackle this, I would design the characters through sketch's so that I can build them easily, I would do the same buildings and the terrain. I would like to figure out what textures would suite this game and how to make things the characters more interesting. This would be an interesting game to make.

Games design

Hey guys,

It's Leah, so I read all the materials given to use and it took awhile. This is because I'm a really slow reader and so I took my time. What I read was quite interesting as I didn't know some of the things that were written.

For example there is two types of games the euro games and the German games. Basicly the euro games are easy to play don't take to long to play and have simple rules. The euro game also doesn't like to have five in it either.

I also read that it's hard to make any type of game different to others in its genre but it's not the lack of creativity but the lack of people trying to make up stories because they are focused on the 3d effects and not on the story.

It was quite a good read. I'll post more hope you enjoy it.

01 Unity

Hi guys,

Sorry for the wrong submission and I accidentally deleted the wrong draft of this. I unfortunately couldn't get unity to upload onto my laptop. As I watched the YouTube channels tutorials I found it quite interesting. The controls look simple enough and the tools look so interesting. Seeing the graphic and how to manipulate the terrain, smooth things and how to make things. I am really interested in how to use it and to look at the new graphic. I love the new shape tools that can help create the scene with making a new character in the system.
I have found that the tutorials were very helpful. The tools are very interesting and once I get unity uploaded I hope to be able to use the tools and make things with new terrains. I really can’t wait to use the tools and make a new terrain and possibly new characters. The tools that make this happen are on unity and I can’t wait to work on the new possible games that we’re hoping to make for this year.
I’m very excited to work on unity and to be able to make new games. This is very exciting.
